FAQ
We are sure you will have questions?
The service is free. We are funded by grants, donations and fundraising.
The more notice you can give, the easier it is for us to organise drivers. Please contact our co-ordinator on 07826 878942 as soon as you have any appointment dates. We can sometimes provide drivers at short notice, but we do need to know at least a day in advance.
Don’t worry. Just let us know on 07826 878942 and we can get things re-arranged.
Yes, it is. Your driver will pick you up from your house, take you straight to the hospital and bring you straight home, making sure you are safely inside before they leave.
Yes, you can take a relative or friend with you and there are no charges for them either. Please tell the co-ordinator when they contact you to arrange your transport.
Drivers usually wait for patients at the hospital. They all have mobiles and the nurses at the clinic will call them for you if you need them to. Just ask the hospital to ring them when you are finished. The driver will give you a card with their phone number on it if you need them to collect you earlier or later than planned.
If you have a blue badge please bring it with you. We do have special places to park at some hospitals but as car parks are very busy, a blue badge is very handy to have.
Most drivers can fit a wheelchair in their car. Please tell the co-ordinator and we will do our best to accommodate you. Alternatively, you can use a hospital wheelchair.
All our drivers have had an appropriate PVG check and provided us with 2 references.
Drivers do not need to have special insurance to drive for us, though we do provide them with a letter for their insurance company. Home 2 Hospital is covered by public liability insurance.
There are some other voluntary organisations that provide this service in other parts of Scotland. www.cancercars.co.uk has a list of these. Alternatively, your local GP, cancer nurse or oncology unit may be able to give you details of what is available in your area. If your GP is in Denny/Bonnybridge, Polmont or Bo’Ness our home page has links to Driving Force, Meadowbank Car4U and Bo’Ness Car4U.
Volunteer Opportunities
1 in 2 of us will get cancer in our lifetime. Treatment can be a lifesaver. Join us to make that journey a little easier by taking away the concern of travelling for that all important treatment. If you are interested in Volunteering click the button and get in contact.
